Hassan Liman is staying in the race. The Nasarawa governorship aspirant under the APC rejected any possibility of stepping aside before Thursday's primary election.
Speaking at party headquarters in Lafia, Liman made his position crystal clear. "I'm not stepping down for anyone," he told reporters at the secretariat.
No one has asked him to quit the contest, he noted. According to him, stepping down isn't even being discussed as an option.
Liman's declaration came after he addressed a large rally and visited party officials. He brushed aside claims that the APC is fracturing over endorsements.
Governor Abdullahi Sule has publicly backed another aspirant in the race. But Liman argues this doesn't undermine the primary process scheduled for Thursday.
"Our party, the APC, is one party and it is intact," he said. In his view, there's no division threatening party unity.
He acknowledged the governor's constitutional right to express his preference. However, Liman insisted that endorsements don't eliminate the need for a primary election.
"That does not mean there will be no primary election," he added. Liman remained defiant about his chances in the coming contest.
