Nasarawa Assembly threatens to dissolve Doma legislative council over crisis

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has threatened to dissolve Doma Local Government Legislative Council, if the councilors failed to embrace peace due to the crises rocking the legislative arm.

The Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Mohammed Alkali, made the House position known during a parley with the councilors of the area on Friday in Lafia.

Alkali, who is the Deputy Chief Whip of the House, described the crisis as unfortunate, uncalled for and must be condemned by all.

According to him, the state assembly will dissolve the legislative council if you the councillors failed to tore the path of peace”.

“You must embrace peace and tolerate one another in the interest of your legislative duties and for the overall development of your area and the state at large,” Alkali advised the councillors.

He said that no local gpvernment would achieve meaningful progress and development, if councillors are not in good terms with each other.

“I have decided to call you to hear from all of you on the crisis rocking Doma legislative council, with the view of proferring solution.

“No council or area will enjoy dividends of democracy, when the legislative council are in crisis,” he warned.

The House also directed that all suspension and counter suspension issued by the two factions stood dissolved, with a call on the warring parties to go and make peace.

The chairman also directed them not to have sitting again, pending final resolution on the crisis as they are expected to return next week Thursday for final decision of the state House of Assembly on the crisis.

On their parts, the Speaker of the Legislative Council, Mr Albert Rabo, among other councillors, welcomed the state assembly intervention and promised to restore peace in the council.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Doma local government legislative council has been in the news over leadership crisis since last month.

This has resulted to the alleged suspension and counter suspension of the executive chairman of the local government, Alhaji Ahmed Usman, and Speaker of the legislative arm, Mr Abert Rabo.

The development attracted the attention of the state legislature and other stakeholders.
