NAFDAC Alerts Nigerians on Substandard, Contaminated Syrup

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert regarding five contaminated syrups allegedly making rounds in World Health Organization (WHO) regions.

This alarming news has sent shockwaves through the Nigerian healthcare system, as citizens are now urged to exercise caution when purchasing and consuming syrups.

The contaminated syrups, which include ALERGO Syrup, EMIDONE Suspension, MUCORID Syrup, ULCOFIN Suspension, and ZINCELL Syrup, have been detected in the Maldives and Pakistan, with some of the affected products also found in Belize, Fiji, and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

The NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has urged healthcare providers and the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious products to the agency.

In a statement, she emphasized the importance of ensuring the quality and safety of medicines and health products, particularly in light of the recent contamination issues.

This development comes at a time when the Nigerian government is working to strengthen its healthcare system and improve the quality of medical care.

The NAFDAC’s swift action in alerting the public about the contaminated syrups is a step in the right direction, as it demonstrates the agency’s commitment to protecting the health and well-being of Nigerian citizens.
