N585m Fraud Allegation An Attempt To Undermine My Efforts – Betta Edu

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, has come under fire following a N585 million fraud allegation.

The minister, however, has vehemently denied the accusations, labeling them as baseless and an alleged attempt to undermine her efforts in fighting corruption.

The controversy began when a memo surfaced, allegedly showing that the minister had directed the Accountant-General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Madein, to transfer N585 million to a private account owned by one Oniyelu Bridget.

The payment was intended for vulnerable groups in four states, but the instruction has raised eyebrows and sparked a heated debate.

Minister Edu took to social media to express her disappointment and frustration. She stated that the claims were an attempt to undermine her ministry’s efforts in fighting corruption and uplifting the needy.

She emphasized that the N585.18m grant for vulnerable groups in four states was approved and followed the stipulated due process of government.

Meanwhile, the Accountant-General’s office has denied any involvement in the payment, stating that they were not responsible for making payments on behalf of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

The AGF further explained that MDAs are responsible for the implementation of their projects and payments for such projects.
