N-Power Program Suspended Indefinitely by FG, Investigation Launched

The Federal Government has announced the indefinite suspension of the N-Power programme, a social intervention scheme that aims to provide jobs and skills to young Nigerians.

The programme’s suspension was announced by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, on a TVC news

According to the minister, the decision was prompted by some irregularities within the program, such as non-compliance with the contract terms, absenteeism, and fraudulent claims of stipends.

The minister also said that the programme needs to be restructured and expanded to accommodate more beneficiaries and ensure transparency and accountability.

The N-Power program was launched by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari to address the issue of youth unemployment and help increase social development. The programme has two categories: N-Power Graduate and N-Power Non-Graduate. The N-Power Graduate category consists of N-Teach, N-Health, N-Agro, N-Tax, and N-Build. The N-Power Non-Graduate category consists of N-Power Knowledge and N-Power Hardware.

The programme has enrolled over 500,000 beneficiaries across the country, who receive monthly stipends of N30,000 for a period of two years. The beneficiaries are also expected to acquire skills and experience that will enable them to become self-reliant or employable in the future.
