Troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA rescued 22 kidnapping victims across two Sokoto communities on June 18, 2026. The rescued group included 17 travellers and five farmers seized by armed militants.
Lt. Col.
Aliyu Danja, the task force's media spokesman, confirmed the operations in separate statements. He said soldiers acted on intelligence reports and distress calls from residents in danger.
Militants blocked the Sabon Birni-Shinkafi Road near Kura Mota Village that morning. They attacked two vehicles carrying civilians and abducted passengers during the assault.
One civilian died in the attack. Armed gunmen opened fire on the trapped motorists before forcing survivors into captivity.
Troops moved quickly to intercept the kidnappers. Soldiers mobilised immediately and launched pursuit operations backed by air support overhead.
Military pressure forced the terrorists to release their captives and scatter. According to Danja, the rapid response stopped the militants from moving further with their victims.
All 17 passengers were freed. Authorities took them into custody for proper documentation and support.
Hours later that same day, gunmen targeted farmers at Chohi Village. Militants attempted to snatch workers from their fields, sources said.
Troops quickly deployed to the location. Soldiers chased the fleeing terrorists along their escape routes in a coordinated pursuit.
Five farmers were recovered alive. They reunited with their families shortly after the successful rescue mission concluded.
Following both operations, soldiers conducted patrols across nearby villages. Gidan Rana and Gidan Sale communities received visits from military personnel to restore confidence.
The patrols aimed to reassure frightened residents. Troops sought to maintain control of the area and restrict militant movement in the zone.
Danja noted the rescues reflected Operation FANSAN YAMMA's core mission. He said protecting civilians and securing communities remains the priority for deployed forces.
These operations show troops' resolve to establish safety. Citizens can now pursue legitimate activities without constant fear of abduction.
Military officials say they'll sustain security efforts across the theatre. The commitment to defending lives and property continues uninterrupted, Danja added.
