Troops under Operation Hadin Kai shot and killed a suspected Boko Haram or ISWAP operative near a military base in Borno State early Tuesday morning.
The incident happened around 2:35 a.m. on June 3 at Forward Operating Base Chabbol, which the 199 Special Forces Battalion runs.
Sentries on duty spotted someone moving toward the base under suspicious circumstances. Military sources said personnel immediately challenged the individual to stop.
The unidentified man ignored multiple warnings to halt for identification checks. He kept advancing toward the military position despite orders to stop.
"The intruder refused to comply with orders to stop and was consequently engaged and neutralised by the sentries," sources told reporters.
Terrorist groups in Nigeria's North-East have repeatedly tried infiltrating military bases for surveillance and attacks. Such incidents have made security protocols even stricter at forward operating bases across the region.
Military authorities say force protection measures remain critical in combating insurgent activities. The operation reflects ongoing efforts to secure military installations against militant threats.
