Soldiers have killed a suspected kidnapping ringleader named Idi Yaya in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the operation through a post on X.
Intelligence reports reached troops around 6:10 am on Monday. The suspect had been wanted for kidnapping and had recently reappeared in the area.
Operatives tracked him to Kikoba community by 11:15 pm that same day. A coordinated raid led to his arrest without initial incident.
Sources revealed he'd been in hiding for months before resurfacing. A kidnapping survivor identified him during the operation, confirming his crimes.
During questioning, Yaya confessed to his involvement in abductions. He also disclosed weapons caches and gang hideouts to investigators.
Everything changed on Tuesday evening around 9:35 pm. While being escorted to one of the identified hideouts, he allegedly lunged for a soldier's rifle.
Troops opened fire during the struggle. He was neutralised in the confrontation.
Eight rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were expended in the operation. Military sources confirmed this detail.
Investigations continue into his criminal network. Authorities say they're working to apprehend other gang members linked to the suspect.
Operations remain active across Kauru and neighbouring communities. The military vows to dismantle kidnapping cells operating in the region.
