Kylian Mbappe joined an exclusive club on Saturday when he notched his 10th goal of the World Cup tournament. The France captain reached the milestone after bagging two goals in his team's 6-4 loss to England in the third-place playoff.
Mbappe had entered the match against the Three Lions with eight goals to his name in the competition. He now stands as only the fourth player ever to reach double figures at a single World Cup.
The Real Madrid forward also became the first player in 56 years to achieve this feat. Three other players have previously scored 10 or more goals at a World Cup tournament.
Sándor Kocsis set the pace with 11 goals in 1954. Just Fontaine went further, scoring 13 goals when France hosted the tournament in 1958.
Gerd Müller completed the trio by finding the net 10 times in 1970. Mbappe has now matched Müller's tally, though he did it decades later than the German striker.
The 25-year-old's brace couldn't prevent France from falling short in the third-place match. England's superior scoring proved decisive in the entertaining encounter.
