Police in Delta State discovered a woman reported missing in Edo State hiding in a hotel with her lover. Oluchi had been reported kidnapped weeks earlier from Ikpoba Hill in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.
Her family launched a desperate appeal for help after receiving ransom demands. The kidnappers initially asked for N50 million, then dropped the demand to N20 million.
One of Oluchi's daughters, based in Canada, made public pleas for assistance. She told reporters the family was struggling to raise the money needed for her mother's release.
Police began their investigation by tracking phone numbers linked to the suspects. Officers traced one mobile line to a hotel in Ubiaroko, Delta State.
What they found shocked investigators. Inside the hotel, they discovered Oluchi with a man — not being held against her will.
Her husband learned the truth only after police made the discovery. Sources close to the investigation confirmed officers located the couple at the hotel.
In a viral video, Oluchi's daughter Anita expressed devastation over the revelation. "My mum is involved in this kidnapping case," she said, her voice breaking with emotion.
Anita insisted the family never paid the ransom demanded by the supposed kidnappers. She noted all funds remained intact and would be returned to donors.
According to her account, police told the family something far more troubling. Investigators said her mother and the man had planned to split the money already collected.
"They had agreed to take what we already raised to N20 million," Anita explained to reporters. The scheme unraveled before they could execute it.
She described the ordeal as emotionally devastating for everyone involved. Her father, she said, was already dealing with serious health problems.
The Harmony Ladies Club, a social organization Anita belongs to, released a statement expressing disappointment. Members had rallied to support what they believed was a genuine kidnapping.
Club members mobilized quickly with emotional support and resources. They believed they were helping a sister in crisis.
"When news of her alleged abduction broke, the club acted swiftly in good faith," their statement read. "Out of sisterhood, love, and community responsibility, we rallied immediately."
The group now feels betrayed by the false claims. What started as a community effort to save a life became an exercise in deception.
Police confirmed the family had involved law enforcement from the beginning. Officers worked the case as a genuine kidnapping investigation throughout.
No charges have been announced yet in connection with the staged abduction. Authorities continue their review of how the scheme was orchestrated.
