Manufacturers Applaud FG’s Suspension of Expatriate Employment Levy, Seek Further Engagement

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has expressed its gratitude to the Federal Government for suspending the implementation of the Expatriate Employment Levy (EEL), allowing for further discussions with stakeholders.

In a statement released on Tuesday, MAN’s Director General, Segun Ajayi-Kadir, commended the swift response of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy in addressing the concerns of the business community.

He also acknowledged the role of the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, as well as the support of the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reform.

The suspension of the levy has brought relief to the business community, which was initially anxious about its implications.

The international business community, particularly those with whom Nigeria has signed trade agreements, will also be reassured of the country’s commitment to creating a conducive business environment.

MAN had previously made a representation to the President and copied the relevant Ministers, requesting that the enforcement of the levy be discontinued.

The association followed up with the Ministers to ensure that the concerns of the private sector were heard.

The suspension of the Expatriate Employment Levy is a positive step towards fostering a more collaborative relationship between the government and the business community, with the ultimate goal of promoting economic growth and attracting foreign investment.
