Man docked for allegedly destroying banana, plantain farm

A 42-year-old man, Emmanuel Israel, was on Thursday docked in an an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly destroying a plantain and banana farm.

Israel is charged with malicious damage and causing breach of peace,

The Prosecutor, Dr Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 1, at Peace Estate, Iba town, in Ojo, Lagos.

He alleged that the defendant destroyed the plantain and banana trees belonging to a housewife, Mrs Gladys Ukwuoma worth N150,000.

Uche told the court that the defendant by his action, conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.

He said that the offence contravenes the provisions of Sections 168 and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

Magistrate L. J.K. Layeni admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case until May 17 for trial.
