Malawi captain Tabitha Chawinga has playfully warned Nigeria's Super Falcons to go easy on her team ahead of their Women's Africa Cup of Nations clash. The Scorchers will make their tournament debut against the defending champions in their opening Group C match at Al Madina Stadium in Rabat on Tuesday, 28 August.
It will be the first-ever meeting between the two nations. Nigeria enters as overwhelming favourites to claim victory in the contest.
Speaking during a webinar organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Chawinga jokingly begged for mercy from Justine Madugu's side. "Super Falcons need to calm down.
Do not give us 5-0, please. 1-0 is enough," the Malawi skipper said.
Chawinga plays for French club Olympique Lyon. The striker's remarks reveal the huge gulf in class between the tournament's defending champions and debutants Malawi.
Nigeria's dominance in African women's football makes them clear favourites for the competition. Malawi will hope to at least keep the scoreline respectable in their opening fixture.
