Governor Seyi Makinde visited Oriire Local Government Area on Saturday to meet families of the abducted teachers and children. He assured them his administration would spare no effort to secure their safe return.
At L.A Basic School in Ahoro Esiele, Makinde sympathized with the affected families and community members. He said the incident marked a dark moment for Nigeria.
Makinde appealed to residents not to blame either the state or federal government. Instead, he urged them to unite behind rescue efforts.
"Don't cry," he told the gathered crowd. "I have come here because you installed this government, and we are responsible to you."
According to him, regardless of whatever grievances the abductors hold, their actions remain cruel and inhumane. He expressed deep sympathy for the families' suffering.
Makinde disclosed that security meetings have been held twice daily since the abduction occurred. He's been working closely with security agencies to facilitate the victims' return.
He acknowledged that Amotekun operatives have died combating security challenges across the state. Despite these setbacks, his administration remains committed to the rescue mission.
The governor commended security commanders for their dedication. He called on residents to intensify prayers for the abductees' safe release.
"This is not the time to trade blame between state and federal authorities," Makinde noted. "Right now, we must come together for our children and teachers."
Professor Wole Alamu, husband of an abducted school principal, made an emotional appeal to the governor. Funmilayo Ojo, whose daughter-in-law and four grandchildren are among the captives, also pleaded for urgent action.
Aliu Saidi, a relative of one victim, joined the pleas for the governor's intervention. He asked Makinde to exhaust every possible avenue for their release.
Following public remarks, Makinde held a closed-door meeting with the families. He discussed ongoing rescue operations and reaffirmed government commitment.
Accompanying the governor was Bimbo Adekanmbi, APM's governorship candidate. Also present was Stanley Olajide, member representing Ibadan North-West/Ibadan Southwest Federal Constituency.
Shina Peller, APM's Oyo North Senatorial Candidate, attended the visit. Olufemi Ajadi, APM's Oyo Central Senatorial Candidate, was also in the entourage.
Segun Ogunwuyi, Chief of Staff to the Governor, accompanied Makinde to the school. Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology Segun Olayiwola was present.
Bayo Lawal, Senior Executive Assistant to the Governor on General Duties, joined the delegation. Several other government officials rounded out the governor's team.
Makinde promised further updates as the rescue operation progresses. He urged families to remain hopeful despite the ordeal they face.
