Law firm denounces false claims linking Akpoti-Uduaghan to ₦10B demand

Indemnity Partners, a distinguished law firm specializing in legal practice and notarial services, has issued a firm disclaimer regarding a fraudulent document circulating on social media.

The document, falsely attributed to the firm, alleged that its client, Senator Mrs. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, had demanded ₦10 billion in damages from her husband, Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Uduaghan, before their marriage.

In an official statement dated November 4, 2022, and signed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) B.C. Igwilo, the firm unequivocally distanced itself from the purported letter. Describing the document as "inauthentic and of dubious origin," the firm stressed that it was neither issued by them nor held any legitimacy. The public was urged to disregard the letter entirely.

Widely circulated online, the misleading document claimed that Mrs. Akpoti-Uduaghan had made serious allegations against Chief Uduaghan, including breach of promise of marriage, and was seeking significant financial compensation. Indemnity Partners, however, categorically denied any involvement in the creation or endorsement of such claims, reaffirming its commitment to professional and ethical legal standards.

This incident highlights the growing challenge of misinformation in the digital age, where false documents can spread rapidly and mislead the public. Indemnity Partners’ swift response underscores the need to verify information before accepting or sharing it, particularly in legal matters.

The firm called on the public and stakeholders to rely solely on official communications from its recognized channels. It further advised those seeking clarification to contact its offices directly, emphasizing the importance of vigilance against deceptive information.
