Lagos state government withdraws 50% discount offer on public transport

The public notice issued on Saturday, November 4, by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) stated that the 50% transport fare discount on all public transport systems in Lagos will be cancelled from November 5.

The discount was introduced on August 2, 2023, by Governor Sanwo-Olu to ease the burden of the removal of the petrol subsidy on commuters. The discount applied to state-owned buses and commercial yellow buses on all routes.

According to the notice, the transport fares will go back to the normal rates that were effective before August 2, 2023, starting on Monday, November 6. The notice urged the residents of Lagos to take note of the change and plan accordingly for the adjustment in transport fares.
