The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency has shut down two hospitality venues for breaching environmental laws and generating excessive noise. Westgate Arena Club at Apostolic Church Close, Olowora, in Kosofe local government area, and Dave Premium and Suites on Alhaji Irorun Street, Alapere, Ketu, have both been sealed.
LASEPA announced the enforcement action on Tuesday via its official X handle, following an order from the commissioner for the environment and water resources, Tokunbo Wahab. The move reflects the state government's push to uphold environmental standards and safeguard public wellbeing.
Both venues had repeatedly flouted noise pollution rules despite receiving multiple warning notices and compliance orders from the agency. They failed to meet the standards set to shield residents from harm and maintain environmental quality.
Dr Babatunde Ajayi, LASEPA's general manager, said the agency remains committed to creating a cleaner, safer and more sustainable Lagos. He stressed that environmental compliance isn't just the government's job—it's everyone's responsibility.
"We'll ramp up our enforcement against those who break the rules to cut down on pollution and protect people," Ajayi told reporters. He called on hospitality and entertainment operators to embrace eco-friendly practices and work with regulators.
The general manager warned that LASEPA would keep using every lawful tool at its disposal to force full adherence to environmental regulations statewide. Hospitality business owners now face mounting pressure to clean up their operations or risk further action.
