Labour Party has moved all its 2027 primary elections to a single date. The party announced Thursday that all contests will now hold on May 30, 2026.

Ken Eluma Asogwa, the party's National Publicity Secretary, disclosed the shift in a statement. He explained that governorship and state assembly primaries were originally scheduled for May 27, while presidential and national assembly contests were set for May 29.

Both dates presented scheduling conflicts with major national observances. May 27 falls on Sallah, Nigeria's important Islamic celebration, while May 29 marks the third anniversary of the current administration's swearing-in.

Party officials felt these clashes warranted a change. They determined that holding all primaries on the same Saturday would be more appropriate and respectful of both occasions.

According to Asogwa, the new arrangement considers the spiritual weight of the Sallah festival. It also acknowledges the national significance of the May 29 anniversary date.

Labour Party believes the unified primary date will boost participation significantly. Members, aspirants, supporters and all Nigerians can now engage fully without conflicting commitments.

Party leadership expressed regret over any disruption the reschedule might create. Officials appealed to aspirants, stakeholders and supporters for their patience and cooperation during this transition.

The party emphasised its commitment to conducting credible and inclusive primary elections. Officials said the decision reflects their dedication to democratic principles and national unity.
