Kwara Governor Commissions Diabetes Centre in Offa: A Community Service Milestone

To improve public health in Kwara State, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq inaugurated a diabetes screening and treatment centre in Offa yesterday.

The facility, donated by the Lions International District 404 B2 Nigeria, is located inside the General Hospital in Offa and aims to address the growing concern of diabetes in Nigeria and around the world.

During the commissioning, Governor AbdulRazaq commended the Lions Club for their investment in tackling diabetes, calling it a “lifesaving contribution.”

He also encouraged further partnerships with his administration to improve the living standards of the people, highlighting the importance of community service and support.

Diabetes, a chronic condition that currently afflicts 463 million adults worldwide, is a major public health concern.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that the prevalence of diabetes in Nigeria is at 4.3%, a number that is expected to rise significantly by 2045.

Factors contributing to this increase include lifestyle changes brought on by urbanization, unhealthy diets, lack of exercise, smoking, and harmful use of alcohol.

The chief medical director of General Hospital, Offa, Dr. Olabisi Abdulsalam, praised Governor AbdulRazaq’s leadership and his commitment to fostering partnerships to strengthen the health sector in the state.

He also expressed gratitude to the Lions Club International Foundation and the Offa community for their support in making the project a success.

The commissioning of the diabetes centre in Offa by Governor AbdulRazaq represents a significant step in addressing a critical public health issue.

This community service milestone highlights the importance of collaboration and investment in improving the well-being of the people of Kwara State.
