Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former Kano governor, disclosed that his daughter pushed him to collaborate with Peter Obi during last year's elections. He made this revelation during a Monday interview on ARISE News while discussing shifting political attitudes among Nigeria's youth.
According to him, young Nigerians care less about religion and ethnicity these days. They're fixated on leadership quality and good governance instead.
"Even in the 2023 election, in my own house, my own daughter was telling me to go and work with Peter Obi," Kwankwaso stated.
Younger voters' preferences often clash sharply with those of older generations, the ex-governor noted. Many political leaders, he argued, haven't grasped how youth and social media now shape Nigeria's political landscape.
"You have leaders who hardly have any contact with the young men and women," he observed.
Kwankwaso stressed that young Nigerians increasingly demand competent leadership capable of solving national problems. They're rejecting appeals based on ethnic or religious identity.
"People are talking of religion. Some people are talking of ethnicity, but the younger people are looking for the right leadership for this country.
And I think they are absolutely right," he noted.
