Rabiu Kwankwaso has sounded an alarm over students and teachers still held captive in Oyo State. The former Kano governor and 2023 NNPP presidential hopeful made the plea on Monday via X.
Victims were abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area. They've now spent an extended period away from their families, he noted.
Kwankwaso described the situation as deeply troubling and unacceptable. He stressed that these captives missed recent celebrations with loved ones.
In his statement, the politician urged authorities to prioritize rescue operations immediately. He called for concrete action to stop similar kidnappings going forward.
"I am deeply disturbed by the ongoing plight of the abducted students and teachers," Kwankwaso wrote. "Like many other victims still in captivity, they have endured prolonged hardship, missing precious moments including the recent festivities with their families and loved ones."
He emphasized that Nigeria must confront its security crisis head-on. According to him, protecting human dignity isn't negotiable.
"It is imperative that the government treats their rescue as a matter of urgent priority, while taking decisive steps to prevent such incidents from recurring," he added. "Nigeria must break free from the chains of insecurity.
The dignity and sanctity of every human life must be protected."
