Gunmen have kidnapped the younger sister of Adebayo Adelabu in Ibadan. Adelabu is a former Power Minister and APC governorship hopeful in Oyo State.

The abduction happened Wednesday morning in the Challenge area. This is located in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area.

Adelabu's media spokesman Femi Awogboro confirmed the incident in a statement. He identified the victims as Mrs.

Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul.

According to the statement, Mrs. John-Paul was taken at around 7:30 a.m.

She was driving her children to school when the gunmen struck.

Mrs. John-Paul is 43 years old.

Her twin sons were with her at the time of the abduction.

She is Adelabu's youngest sibling among five children. Their mother is Mrs.

Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu.

Before retiring last year, Mrs. John-Paul worked in Nigeria's financial sector.

She had served at both the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian.

Following her retirement, she moved back to Ibadan with her children. Her husband, Mr.

John Paul, had already relocated to the United States of America.

Family officials said security agencies were contacted immediately after the kidnapping. Police and other law enforcement bodies have already launched investigations.

"Security operatives have swung into action and preliminary investigations have commenced in earnest," the statement noted. "Efforts are currently ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the apprehension of those responsible for this heinous crime."

Adelabu and his family expressed confidence in the security agencies. They remain hopeful about the safe return of Mrs.

John-Paul and her children.

The family urged the public to stay calm during the rescue effort. They also warned against spreading unverified reports that might compromise ongoing operations.

In their statement, they called for prayers from Nigerians. They also appealed for support from members of the public.

Anyone with information has been urged to contact security agencies. Such details could prove vital in the rescue mission.

"The family will continue to cooperate fully with security authorities," the statement said. They promised to provide updates as the situation develops.
