Keystone Bank Limited has doubled down on its drive to foster social inclusion through a new partnership with the Akwa Ibom State Government and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The collaboration saw the distribution of wheelchairs and mobility devices to persons with disabilities across Uyo.

The bank coupled the distribution with a three-day training programme targeting PWDs who work as clinicians and artisans in the state. The scheme aimed to build local capacity while ensuring sustainable support for disabled persons seeking mobility assistance.

Participants underwent practical instruction in assembling, fitting, repairing, maintaining and customising wheelchairs and other aids. The hands-on approach equipped trainees with skills to deliver personalised support within their communities.

Izore Lami-Bamawo, group head of corporate communications at Keystone Bank, praised the initiative during Monday's announcement. "We're proud to work alongside the Akwa Ibom State Government and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on this impactful scheme," she said.

According to Lami-Bamawo, the programme reflects shared commitment to advancing social inclusion and improving quality of life for persons with disabilities. She commended the state government for championing what she termed an initiative aligned with Keystone Bank's vision for community empowerment and development.

Princess Emem Ibanga, commissioner for humanitarian affairs in Akwa Ibom State, spoke at the training's closing ceremony. She hailed the intervention as a watershed moment in boosting mobility, independence and dignity for disabled residents.

Ibanga noted the programme had strengthened the state's ability to deliver lasting mobility support through clinicians and artisans trained locally. The commissioner thanked both Keystone Bank and the church for their role in advancing the welfare of vulnerable populations.

Elder Enefiok Tom Ntem, representing The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, underscored the church's commitment to humanitarian work. "This initiative reflects our values of compassion and service to those in need," he told the gathering.

All beneficiaries received customised wheelchairs and walking aids suited to their individual requirements. Trained clinicians and artisans were handed certificates and pledged to deploy their newly learnt expertise across Akwa Ibom State.

The bank's involvement highlights its push toward corporate social responsibility and strategic alliances that drive inclusion and lasting change. Keystone Bank continues collaborating with government and development partners to support schemes that expand access to vital services and drive national progress.
