Kano State Government Charges Former Governor Ganduje and Family in Corruption Case

The Kano State Government has filed an eight-count charge against former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, his wife Hafsat, son Umar, and five others, accusing them of various financial crimes.
The charges were filed before a Kano High Court, alleging that the defendants had committed offenses that contravened the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Commission Commission Law 2008.
Among the charges, Ganduje is accused of collecting a $200,000 kickback from a contractor as well as misappropriating funds earmarked for the purchase of face masks and hospital equipment.
The state government, led by Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), also accused Ganduje of receiving a $210,000 kickback through an agent from people and entities seeking or holding the execution of a Kano State Government contract for the remodeling of the Kantin Kwari textile market.
Other defendants in the case include Abubakar Bawuro, Jibrilla Muhammad, Lamash Properties Limited, Safari Textiles Limited, and Lesaga General Enterprises.
The charges against them include official corruption, criminal conspiracy, and breach of trust.
Ganduje and those close to him have denied the allegations, claiming that they are politically motivated to tarnish the former governor’s reputation. Ganduje is currently the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
If found guilty, the defendants could face severe penalties under the relevant laws governing financial misconduct in Kano State.
This case has garnered significant attention as it involves a former state governor and high-ranking members of his family, highlighting the ongoing issue of corruption in Nigeria’s political landscape.
