The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Usaini Gumel, has announced a ban on Sallah Durbar for the upcoming Eid-El-Kabir celebrations in the state.
The decision, which comes amid ongoing controversy surrounding the Kano Emirate tussle, is aimed at ensuring the safety and security of the community.
According to a statement released by the Command's spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna, CP Gumel said the ban is a result of series of security reports and extensive consultations with relevant security stakeholders.
The objective is to maintain peace and security in the state during the festive period.
The Kano State Police Command has congratulated Muslim faithfuls and all law-abiding residents of the state for witnessing another Eid-El-Kabir Sallah period.
The Command has assured that adequate security deployments have been put in place to prevent any breakdown of law and order in all parts of the state before, during, and after the celebrations.
Worshippers have been advised to conduct their normal Eid Prayers at the various designated Eid praying grounds, as has been traditionally done in the past.
The Command has emphasized the need for continued collaboration and cooperation from all stakeholders to collectively work towards building a safer and more secure environment.
The public has also been encouraged to report any suspicious movements of persons or items to the nearest Police Station or through the Command's emergency contacts.
This ban comes after the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, had directed district heads to prepare to join him for the Sallah Durbar celebration in the ancient city of Kano.
However, the security concerns have prompted the authorities to take this precautionary measure to safeguard the community during the festive period.
