Alhaji Muhammad Bello Dalhat has won the PDP's governorship primary in Kano State. He polled 2,233 votes at the exercise.

His closest rival was Alhaji Muhammad Sani Abacha, son of late military ruler General Sani Abacha. Abacha managed just 749 votes in the contest.

Umar Danjani Hadejia, who chaired the primary election committee, announced the results on Wednesday. He noted that Dalhat's victory margin was substantial and decisive.

Dalhat now carries the party's flag into the 2027 governorship race in Kano. He secured the PDP ticket after the primary concluded.

Kano remains one of northern Nigeria's most politically significant states. Its large population and history of shifting allegiances make it crucial for any party's electoral ambitions.

The PDP once held power in Kano during the early 2000s era. Since then, the party has found it difficult to regain its former stronghold in the state.

The All Progressives Congress currently dominates Kano's political landscape. Many observers view next year's election as an opportunity for the PDP to rebuild its presence.
