Members of the All Progressives Congress in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State have switched to the Nigerian Democratic Congress as the 2027 general elections approach. The defectors, predominantly young people, received a welcome into the NDC on Sunday from Alhaji Yusuf Rabiu Fasaha, the party's state publicity secretary in Kano, and Captain Nafe, who is the NDC's assembly candidate for the local government.

Fasaha told the new members that their move reflected the NDC's rising appeal among youths in the state. He pledged that the party would offer them fair treatment and positions within its ranks.

Captain Nafe urged the defectors to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the polls. According to him, the NDC remains focused on advancing youth interests and delivering representation centred on the people's needs.

The shift represents a significant moment for the NDC in Kumbotso. Those who joined the party pledged their backing for its objectives and direction.

The defections come as major Nigerian political parties brace for the 2027 presidential and legislative contests. Several states have witnessed similar movements as politicians and supporters reassess their political alignments heading into the election cycle.
