Twenty-four suspects in the Maraban Jos mob killing case have been arraigned in court. Kaduna State Government says it's a major victory for justice.
Commissioner for Information and Culture Malam Ahmed Maiyaki issued a statement welcoming the arrests. He praised the police for acting fast and investigating thoroughly.
Governor Uba Sani's administration firmly rejects mob violence and jungle justice, Maiyaki said. No person or group can take the law into their own hands.
"The rule of law is democracy's foundation," the commissioner noted in his statement. He stressed that no grievance justifies killing someone outside the legal system.
Maiyaki called the tragedy a harsh lesson about lawlessness in society. Citizens must report crimes to authorities instead of seeking revenge, he urged.
"Governor Sani's government will not tolerate mob action or jungle justice," Maiyaki declared. Residents should report suspected crimes and let the courts decide, he added.
Anyone caught taking justice into their own hands faces full legal penalties, according to him. Status or connections won't matter in prosecutions, he warned.
Police have indicated over one hundred other suspects remain under investigation, Maiyaki disclosed. He expressed confidence in the ongoing police inquiry into the incident.
Government will continue backing security agencies and courts, the commissioner promised. Both institutions need support to ensure accountability and public safety, he said.
Condolences went to the deceased woman's family from state officials. Maiyaki asked citizens to stay calm and work with security forces.
Kaduna State remains committed to justice through proper legal channels, he stressed. Violence and vigilantism have no place in the state, he maintained.
All suspects found guilty will face justice through due process, Maiyaki assured. Public cooperation with authorities is essential for maintaining peace, he concluded.
Citizens were urged to remain law-abiding and vigilant going forward. Respect for human life must guide conduct across Kaduna State at all times.
