Julius Berger Hands Over Second Niger Bridge To FG

The Federal Government has officially taken over the Second Niger Bridge, a mega-project worth billions of naira, from Julius Berger, the construction giant and contractor.

At a short event at the bridge’s toll area, Dave Umahi, the Works Minister, praised the project and said that the contractor had fixed the damaged parts.

He also said that any private company that would be willing to finish the other roads, charge tolls, and get back their money could take over the bridge.

Umahi said that they were planning how to reduce traffic on the old and new bridges during the holidays.

The bridge, which is 1.6 kilometres long, connects Anambra and Delta states.

The idea of the Second Niger Bridge came up during the 1978–79 election campaign of Shehu Shagari of the NPN, who was running for president.
