Soldiers from Nigeria and Benin carried out a coordinated night patrol in Cotonou last week. The operation targeted insecurity plaguing border communities in the region.
According to Zagazola Makama, a security analyst tracking the Lake Chad crisis, the mission occurred between 12:05 am and 2:12 am on June 8. He confirmed it unfolded under Operation AWATSE/Operation A II framework.
Both armies patrolled key locations and designated routes across Cotonou. Their goal was strengthening cross-border security ties and tackling transnational criminal networks.
Makama told reporters the operation went smoothly without complications. No security incidents were recorded during the entire patrol, he noted.
The joint effort boosted visible police presence throughout the city. It also improved how the forces shared intelligence and worked together operationally.
In his words, such patrols remain essential for West African stability. Makama stressed that regular collaborative operations help address emerging threats along shared frontiers.
Nigeria and Benin continue deepening their security cooperation framework. The initiative focuses on border management and combating cross-border crime networks.
Security experts say joint patrols protect communities near international boundaries. They also strengthen operational relationships between participating nations' armed forces.
Both countries remain committed to regional peace and stability. Makama indicated more coordinated operations lie ahead for the security partners.
