Jigawa State Government Allocates N1.1 Billion for Food Subsidy to Civil Servants

Jigawa State Government has approved the allocation of N1.1 billion for the urgent procurement of additional food supplies, including 12,000 bags of rice and 15,000 cartons of spaghetti.

This initiative aims to provide these food items to civil servants at subsidized prices through cooperative shops established across the state’s 27 local government areas.

The announcement was made by the State Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Sagir Musa, during a press briefing, detailing the outcomes of the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held on Monday.

In addition to the food subsidy, the state government has allocated N2.8 billion for this year’s Ramadan feeding program, ensuring that citizens have access to essential food items during the holy month.

In a related development, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government has acknowledged the current hike in food prices and assured Nigerians that the situation is temporary.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, emphasized that the federal government is implementing a comprehensive intervention program to alleviate the hardships faced by the people.

As part of this program, the government has released 42,000 metric tonnes (MT) of various food commodities from the National Strategic Food Reserve, which will be distributed to vulnerable Nigerians across the country.

The President’s concern about the escalating food prices and his commitment to ensuring the availability and affordability of essential food items for Nigerians was highlighted.

The allocation of N1.1 billion by the Jigawa State Government for the food subsidy and the federal government’s intervention program to address food prices and economic hardship demonstrate the government’s efforts to support the citizens and improve their welfare.
