Police in Jigawa state have arrested 24 motorists for breaking traffic and vehicle registration laws, the command confirmed. Spokesman SP Lawan Shiisu Adam disclosed the enforcement operation in a statement released to reporters.
The crackdown targeted drivers using illegal coverings on number plates, displaying defaced plates, and operating unregistered vehicles. Officers also arrested motorists displaying manufacturer logos instead of approved registration plates and those with unauthorised tinted windows.
According to the police, such violations make it harder to police the roads effectively. They hinder crime detection and investigations while making it easier for criminals to escape identification and prosecution, he said.
All 24 vehicles seized during the operation have been impounded. The offenders faced court proceedings in line with traffic laws, the spokesman noted.
The police insisted the exercise wasn't designed to harass honest motorists. Rather, it aims to boost public safety, tighten security, and push compliance with vehicle regulations on state roads.
Vehicle owners and drivers must update their documentation immediately, the command urged. They should remove illegal coverings from plates, fix damaged registration numbers, stop using manufacturer emblems, and follow tinted glass rules.
Police warned they'll continue sweeping enforcement across Jigawa state indefinitely. Anyone caught breaking the regulations will face arrest and prosecution, officials said.
The command thanked residents for backing efforts to keep the state safe and secure. Officers promised to maintain pressure on violators until compliance improves statewide.
