A 22-year-old man, Ahmed Saleh, faces arrest in Bauchi over allegations that he impersonated a police officer and broke into a female students' lodge at Malikiyya College of Health in the Old GRA area. Authorities also accuse him of attempted rape and theft.
The breach occurred early Friday when the suspect, dressed in a police camouflage uniform, entered the hostel around 2:30 am, police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib said. The college alerted police at roughly 6:30 am after discovering the intruder on campus.
Saleh, who lives in Kobi Area, claimed he worked with Garu Security Service, Bauchi, according to the statement. Detectives and patrol officers led by the divisional police officer in charge of 'B' Division moved swiftly to the scene and arrested him.
Officers recovered the police uniform the man allegedly wore during the incident. Investigators also connected him to multiple theft cases reported around the hostel area in recent times.
He remains in police custody pending the outcome of investigations. Once authorities complete their probe, he'll face court charges, the command confirmed.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu warned against anyone falsely claiming police identity or private security firms impersonating official agencies. "We will not tolerate this," the police chief told reporters.
Aliyu assured students and residents that the command prioritises safeguarding lives and property across schools throughout the state. He pledged renewed security efforts around educational institutions.
