The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has issued a stern warning to self-proclaimed Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa, stating that the Ijaw people are not part of Biafra and will not tolerate any claims to the contrary.
The IYC made this announcement in response to a video released by Ekpa on X, in which he asserted that Ijaw territories are part of the Biafran State.
In the statement released by IYC's national spokesperson, Binebai Yerin Princewill, the IYC emphasized that the Ijaw people are a distinct ethnic group in the Niger Delta and have no ties to the Biafran people or their agitation.
The IYC cited the declaration of the 'Niger Delta Republic' by late Ijaw hero and nationalist, Major Isaac Adaka Boro, a year before the Biafra Republic was declared by Odumegwu Ojukwu.
The IYC also condemned the recent attacks on Okuama and Igbomotoru, Ijaw communities in Delta and Bayelsa States, respectively, and stressed that these areas are not part of Biafra and will never be part of it.
The IYC urged the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Nigerian military to take note of these facts and not to associate these attacks with the Biafra agitation.
As tensions continue to rise in the Niger Delta, the IYC's message is clear: Ijaw people are not part of Biafra, and any attempts to claim their territories as part of the Biafran State will not be tolerated.
