IWD 2024: Nigerian Women Praised by Akpabio as a “Special Breed” and “Full Package”

On the occasion of International Women’s Day (IWD) 2024, Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has expressed his admiration for Nigerian women, describing them as a “special breed” and a “full package.”

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, the Senate President acknowledged the resilience and unwavering spirit of Nigerian women in their daily struggles.

Akpabio commended the theme of this year’s celebration, “Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress,” emphasizing the importance of investing in women for the overall development of a nation.

He cited the popular saying, “Train a woman and you train a nation,” to underscore the significance of women’s education and empowerment.

The Senate President also highlighted the campaign theme, “Inspire inclusion,” which aligns with the 10th Senate’s commitment to enacting laws that would increase girl-child enrollment in schools, combat sexual exploitation, and promote the welfare of women in general.

In his message, Akpabio assured Nigerian women that the National Assembly under his leadership would continue to advocate for their improved welfare.

He emphasized that “failure to invest in women is akin to killing development and destroying a nation.”

Channels Television, a prominent Nigerian news outlet, reported on the Senate President’s heartfelt message, which resonated with many who recognize the invaluable contributions of Nigerian women to their families, communities, and the nation at large.

As the world celebrates IWD 2024, the recognition of Nigerian women as a “special breed” and a “full package” by the Senate President serves as a reminder of the importance of investing in women and promoting gender equality for the betterment of society.
