Iran's military brass issued a stern warning to Washington on Tuesday against launching fresh attacks on the Islamic Republic.
Brigadier General Ebrahim Zolfaghari, the military's spokesman, said Tehran would respond with new weapons and tactics if the US strikes again.
According to state news agency Fars, Zolfaghari stressed that Iran cannot be surrounded or vanquished militarily.
"Our armed forces dominate the Strait of Hormuz completely," the military official stated. "The situation there is irreversible."
He added that Washington's best course is to respect Iran's sovereignty and acknowledge its legitimate rights.
Ebrahim Azizi, who chairs parliament's national security committee, made similar comments about the crucial waterway.
Azizi declared that Tehran will always control and manage the Strait of Hormuz.
These remarks follow Donald Trump's announcement last week that he'd halted planned military strikes on Iran.
Trump said Gulf allies had requested he hold back while serious talks with Tehran were underway.
Yet the US president warned he's readying a full-scale military campaign if negotiations collapse.
