Insecurity in Nigeria: Peter Obi Urges President Tinubu to Take Action Amid Rising Terror Attacks

Amidst growing concerns over insecurity in Nigeria, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has urged President Bola Tinubu not to allow the nation to slide into anarchy as bandit and kidnapping attacks continue to rise.

In a recent X post, Obi expressed his worries at the alarming rate of insecurity in the country.

He suggested that addressing poverty through job creation and support for small businesses is the most effective long-term solution to combat the issue.

Recent reports of terror attacks in various parts of Nigeria have highlighted the need for immediate action.

In the Ukum area of Benue State, a militia gang war led to the death of approximately 50 people, including a family of seven.

In Borno State, over 100 internally displaced persons, mainly women, were reportedly abducted by terrorists.

These attacks not only result in the tragic loss of human life but also have a detrimental effect on Nigeria’s economic and social life.

The rising insecurity has forced farmers in Northern Nigeria to pay up to N100,000 to bandits for permission to farm, or risk being attacked.

This situation threatens the nation’s food production and could exacerbate the already high food inflation.

Obi commended the efforts of Nigeria’s security agencies, who have been working tirelessly to combat the security challenges.

However, he stressed that more efforts are required to match the enemies of the nation with enough firepower to subdue them and reclaim Nigeria.

In an unfortunate turn of events, bandits recently struck at LEA Primary School, Kuriga (1), in Kuriga town, Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State, leading to chaos and the abduction of numerous pupils.

Although residents estimated that around 100 individuals were taken, the exact number remains unknown at the time of this report.

In light of these developments, it is crucial for President Tinubu’s administration to take decisive action to address the growing insecurity in Nigeria and work towards a more stable and prosperous future for the nation.
