INEC Gears Up for Re-run Polls in Kano – A Step Closer to Democracy

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kano State has recently announced that they are fully prepared to conduct re-run elections in Kunchi/Tsanyawa, Kura/Garun Malam, and Rimin Gado/Tofa House of Assembly constituencies.

The elections, scheduled for February 3, 2024, will address the gaps left by court orders within the three local government councils in the state.

According to the state resident electoral commissioner, Ambassador Abdu Zango, the commission is committed to conducting a free, fair, and credible by-election, in line with the electoral act.

The commission has also fixed January 21 as the closing date for the submission of the names of party agents of all the political parties participating in the by-election.

In a recent consultative meeting with leaders of political parties at the commission’s headquarters, Ambassador Zango emphasized that the commission has no candidate and will not hesitate to declare whoever emerges victorious as the winner of the election.

This re-run election will not only help to fill the gaps left by the court orders, but also to strengthen the democratic process in Kano State.

As the date for the re-run election approaches, the people of Kano State eagerly await the opportunity to exercise their right to vote and to have their voices heard.

It is a crucial step towards a more transparent and accountable governance in the region.
