Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, has assured Niger people of his administration’s commitment to educational development, as well as science and technology as the bedrock of his tenure.

Bago said this while delivering his inaugural speech at the Trade Fair square on Monday in Minna.

He said that education would be the centre point of his administration towards having an enlightened society and residents capable of complementing the democratic efforts of government.

“Niger educational policies will focus on revamping the sector to provide qualitative, affordable and accessible education, with special interest in the girl-child education.

” We shall address the challenges of basic education and make it free and compulsory as enshrined in the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Act,” he said.

The governor said that his administration would bring innovative ideas on how best to reposition the state secondary schools especially the Science and Technical Schools.

“We are going to revamp technical and vocational education in public schools to check rising unemployment among the youths,” he said.

Bago also said that his government would invest in the health sector to enhance effective, efficient, accessible and affordable healthcare delivery in the state.

“My government will look critically into the immediate challenges of basic primary healthcare delivery. We are going to take proper cognisance of the general hospitals across the state.

“We will address immediately the issue of inadequate manpower in our primary and secondary health facilities to enable us surmount health challenges,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Bago was sworn in as the 6th democratically elected governor of Niger by Justice Halima Ibrahim, the Chief Judge of the state.
