Senator Ned Nwoko has expressed his commitment to taking on challenges that many would shy away from, emphasizing his passion for pursuing extraordinary goals that benefit the people he represents.
Speaking during an interactive session with journalists at his Mount Ned country home in Idumuje-Ugboko, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, Senator Nwoko asserted that his leadership style prioritizes the collective good over personal gains. He noted, “I am not the kind of politician that would sacrifice the interests of my people for self-aggrandizement.”
Highlighting his achievements, Nwoko recounted his legal battle to secure Nigeria’s Paris Club refund. He said the victory, which returned substantial funds illegally deducted from Nigeria for foreign loan repayments, enabled states to better serve their people. “The Paris Club refund was one of my most fulfilling achievements, knowing that the funds were reinvested in improving lives,” he remarked.
The Senator also delved into his passion for exploration, describing his expedition to Antarctica, the Earth's most remote continent. As one of 17 explorers on the journey, he endured rigorous physical fitness routines and health checks to prepare for the challenges of the 14-million-square-kilometer icy expanse. “This journey was not about tourism—it was about expanding my horizons and exploring uncharted territories,” he said.
On education, Nwoko shared how his vision for Nigeria’s first Sports University, now thriving in its second academic year, became a reality. He explained that establishing such a unique institution required him to guide the National Universities Commission (NUC) in developing a blueprint. "I insisted on a Sports University to go beyond the ordinary, and the NUC officials had to travel to study similar models abroad before granting approval,” he revealed.
Speaking on his role as a Senator, Nwoko reaffirmed his dedication to Anioma’s development, particularly through the push for the creation of Anioma State. “Anioma State will bring more opportunities for Deltans—two governors, six senators, additional federal representation, and job creation,” he said. “I have been elected to serve, and I will not trade the interests of Anioma people for personal concerns or re-election considerations."
