Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has announced the immediate suspension of special promotions within the police force, citing concerns that the practice is undermining the integrity of the promotion process.

In a recent announcement, the IGP expressed his frustration with the lengths to which some officers go to lobby for special promotions, warning that any officer recommended for such promotions from higher authorities will face disciplinary action.

Egbetokun emphasized that future decisions regarding special promotions will be handled by the police management when necessary.

He also issued a stern warning against undue soliciting for postings, stating that anyone found guilty of this behavior will be dealt with according to the law of the Force.

The announcement was made during a ceremony where 15 senior police officers were decorated with their new ranks.

The officers included one Deputy Inspector-General of Police, 11 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, and 15 Commissioners of Police.

The IGP's actions reflect a commitment to upholding fairness and meritocracy in the police force, ensuring that promotions are based on competence and performance rather than lobbying or external influences.
