The Idjerhe Kingdom in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State came alive on Friday, December 27, 2024, as the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Idjerhe District, in partnership with His Royal Majesty, King Monday Obukowho Arthur Whiskey, JP PhD, hosted the annual Idjerhe Prayer Day.
This year’s event, themed “Gain of Unity” and tagged Idjerhe for Christ, attracted a large gathering at Oto’rho Idjerhe, where leaders and citizens united in prayer for the kingdom’s progress and prosperity.
Dignitaries, including the monarch, top chiefs, bishops, clergymen, political leaders, and community members, attended the spiritually charged event. Participants prayed fervently for peace, unity, and development within the kingdom.
In his keynote address, King Monday Whiskey emphasized the importance of unity and called on all sons and daughters of Idjerhe to prioritize the kingdom's progress. “Peace and unity are essential for development,” the king stated. “I urge every Idjerhe indigene to remember their roots and contribute to the growth of our kingdom. By establishing businesses and supporting development, we can transform Idjerhe into a beacon of progress.”

Reflecting on the past year’s successes, the monarch credited divine intervention and encouraged continued prayers for prosperity. “Let us pray for more opportunities and industrial growth, not just for Idjerhe but for Nigeria as a whole,” he added.
A highlight of the ceremony was a collective prayer led by Bishop Great Améye, the first indigenous bishop of the kingdom, alongside the king, chiefs, and other clergy. Together, they sought divine blessings for unity and advancement.
Several attendees shared their thoughts on the event’s impact. Okakuro Onosia James Obriki, the Otota of Great Idjerhe Kingdom, expressed optimism about the prayers’ influence. “This year’s Prayer Day was extraordinary. The messages resonated deeply, and miracles were witnessed. I believe this spiritual exercise will strengthen unity in Idjerhe,” he said.
Honourable Blessing Achoja, a Delta State House of Assembly member, praised the initiative. “This event is a welcome development. With today’s prayers, I believe 2025 will be a better year for Idjerhe. Whether at home or abroad, we must continue to pray for our kingdom’s growth,” she stated.
Honorable Chief Sunday Ajaemue also called for peaceful collaboration. “Let us support our king and work together to ensure peace reigns in Idjerhe. Unity is our strength,” he noted.
Former local government chairman, Honorable Pastor Owoso Nelson Oghenedoro, emphasized the role of prayer in progress. “We cannot achieve everything alone; we need divine intervention. For peace and prosperity, we must come together as a community to seek God’s guidance,” he urged.
Bishop Great Améye delivered a heartfelt message on love and forgiveness, underscoring their role in unity. “Unity begins with love and the willingness to forgive. Let us embrace one another and work together for harmony,” he said.
Professor Robert Oghenedoro Dode highlighted the connection between peace and development. “When peace prevails, progress follows. We must continue to pray and work toward a united Idjerhe Kingdom,” he advised.
As the event concluded, participants left inspired to uphold the values of unity, peace, and faith. The 2024 Idjerhe Prayer Day not only reinforced the spiritual foundation of the kingdom but also inspired collective action toward a brighter future. With leaders and citizens united, the vision of a prosperous Idjerhe Kingdom is within reach.
