The National Financial Secretary of the Ibori-Suenu Grassroot Network (ISGN), Hon. Theophilus Asohro, has described the defection of Rt. Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, Member Representing Ethiope East and West Constituency at the National Assembly, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), as a clear sign of victory for the federal lawmaker in the 2027 elections.
Hon. Asohro, who also serves as a senior legislative aide to the President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, made this statement in response to remarks credited to the Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo. Akpowowo had downplayed Ibori-Suenu’s defection, claiming it held no significance for the PDP in the Ethiope Federal Constituency.
According to Hon. Asohro, the achievements and antecedents of Rt. Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu across the Ethiope Federal Constituency speak volumes about her capacity and popularity. “Come 2027, she will emerge victorious in any political position she chooses to contest,” he confidently stated.
Asohro urged APC members and supporters of ISGN in the Ethiope Federal Constituency to remain focused and committed to the party’s growth and success. He dismissed Akpowowo’s claim that Ibori-Suenu’s defection had no impact, arguing instead that her move to APC has caused significant concern within the PDP. “The defection of Rt. Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu to APC has profound consequences for the PDP, which is why their members are unsettled,” Asohro clarified.
Furthermore, he emphasized that the PDP no longer holds a seat in the House of Representatives for the Ethiope Federal Constituency and, therefore, lacks the authority or capacity to declare Ibori-Suenu’s seat vacant.
Hon. Asohro’s remarks reflect confidence in the federal lawmaker’s political future and highlight the strategic significance of her defection to APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
