Hoodlums’ plot to kidnap INEC staff, materials thwarted by security agents in Imo election

Some brave security agents in Imo State prevented a group of hoodlums from kidnapping INEC staff and stealing election materials on Saturday.

The scene of the action was a registration area centre in Amaimo, a town in Ikeduru Local Government Area.

According to a witness, the hoodlums tried to force the INEC staff into their vehicle, but they met stiff resistance from the security agents on duty at the centre.

The witness, who did not want to be named, told NAN that the security agents, who were armed, shot into the air from a distance when the voters in the area raised the alarm over the hoodlums’ presence.

“The hoodlums quickly ran back to their bus and zoomed off when they heard the gunshots,” the witness said.

A Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer, who was not armed, also confirmed the incident to NAN. He said, “The hoodlums came to snatch the INEC staff and election materials. But they were unlucky because some people started shouting when they saw them. Their shouting alerted the armed security agents, who quickly fired into the air, making the hoodlums flee.
