Armed attackers stormed a Nigeria Immigration Service office in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on Tuesday night. They made off with weapons belonging to officers stationed there.
The assault happened around 10 p.m., witnesses said. Residents in the area scrambled in fear as the incident unfolded.
According to people with knowledge of what happened, the gunmen overwhelmed the security team on duty. They then fled with the officers' firearms.
An immigration officer confirmed the attack in a message to Daily Trust on Wednesday evening. He requested anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak publicly about it.
He didn't say how many attackers were involved. Neither did he reveal whether anyone was hurt in the raid.
