Armed men stormed a home in Asarara village, Kebbi State, on Saturday morning and shot dead a married couple. Muhammad Haruna and his wife, Habiba Abubakar, were killed in the early hours of the attack.
The Nigeria Police Force has now begun hunting for the gunmen responsible for the killings. Bashir Usman, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kebbi, confirmed the incident to reporters.
Both bodies have been taken to a hospital in Birnin Kebbi for examination. "The bodies are in one of the hospitals in Birnin Kebbi for further investigation and examination," Usman noted.
He said this would help investigators determine who carried out the attack. Security agencies are working together to track down those behind the murders.
Usman appealed to residents to stay calm during the investigation. He asked communities to share any information that might help catch the perpetrators.
Witnesses say the attack happened around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. People in the village described the couple as peaceful, with no known enemies or disputes.
Muhammad and Habiba left behind six children. Investigators are treating the case as a priority matter.
