Governor Inuwa Takes Action: N5.4 Billion Gratuities Paid to State and Local Government Retirees in Gombe

Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has initiated the payment of N5.4 billion in gratuities to state and local government retirees.

The governor’s commitment to improving the lives of these individuals was showcased during a symbolic presentation of cheques to beneficiaries at the Government House banquet hall.

Upon assuming office in 2019, Governor Inuwa inherited a backlog of N21 billion in gratuity arrears owed to state and local government retirees.

Over the past five years, his administration has cleared over N7 billion of these backlogs, demonstrating a strong commitment to addressing the issue head-on.

The governor’s dedication to civil service reforms extends beyond the payment of pension and gratuity arrears.

In an effort to revitalize the service and enhance efficiency, the governor introduced the Bureau of Public Service Reforms.

This move has not only improved the effectiveness of the service but also addressed issues associated with it.

In addition to addressing gratuity arrears, Governor Inuwa’s administration has implemented promotions in both state and local government civil service, with both nominal and financial implications.

The governor has also rationalized the ministries to reduce the cost of governance and bureaucratic inefficiencies.

Governor Inuwa emphasized the importance of productivity and dedication from civil servants, stating that the government has introduced a biometric attendance system in various ministries, departments, and agencies to enhance accountability and productivity.

The governor’s proactive approach to addressing the welfare of civil servants and retirees in Gombe State is a positive step towards ensuring their well-being and recognizing their contributions to the development of the state.

By implementing these measures, Governor Inuwa aims to create a more efficient and effective civil service that can better serve the needs of the people of Gombe.
