Governor Eno Unveils N1.5 Billion Interest-Free Loan and Free Food Voucher Program for Traders in Akwa Ibom State

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has recently launched a N1.5 billion interest-free loan program for traders in the state.

The initiative, which is managed by Ibom Fadama Micro Finance Bank, aims to provide much-needed financial support to traders in the face of challenging economic conditions.

The launch of the free food voucher program for the vulnerable and the less privileged at the popular Itam Market in Itu Local Government Area was also part of the governor’s efforts to provide relief to those most in need.

The free food voucher initiative is a key element of the recently signed Bulk Purchase Agency Bill, which aims to provide staple food items such as garri, rice, and beans to the most vulnerable through the Social Register.

Speaking at the launch, Governor Eno emphasized the importance of thinking outside the box when faced with daunting social problems.

He explained that the loan and free food programs are part of his administration’s intervention to help alleviate the current economic hardship in the country.

In addition to the loan and free food voucher programs, Governor Eno also pledged to construct a car park, provide solar panel lights, and modern toilet facilities at the Itam Market – all of which were the prayers of the market’s leadership.

The governor further emphasized the need for leaders to focus on finding innovative solutions to challenges and stressed that the solution to food security lies in encouraging people to return to farming.

He shared his experience of visiting a farm run by a young man and expressed his commitment to supporting such initiatives.

In a final call to action, Governor Eno directed the transition chairmen of the remaining 29 local government councils to ensure they launch the free food voucher program by next Tuesday.

As the Akwa Ibom State government takes these bold steps to address economic hardship and food security, the interest-free loan and free food voucher programs are set to make a significant impact on the lives of traders and the most vulnerable in the state.
