Government Urges Citizens to Refrain from Paying Ransom to Kidnappers

In a recent statement by the Minister of Defence, Muhammadu Badaru, the government has called on Nigerians to stop the illegal payment of ransom to kidnappers and bandits.

The minister made this appeal after a Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, citing concerns over the growing trend of crowdfunding to pay ransom to kidnappers.

According to Badaru, such practices will only worsen the situation and encourage criminals to continue their nefarious activities.

He emphasized that the government is taking steps to address the issue, including increased security measures in areas where kidnappings have been reported.

The minister’s statement comes in the wake of a series of high-profile kidnappings in the country, particularly in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and surrounding areas.

In some cases, families of the victims have resorted to raising funds through crowdfunding platforms to secure the release of their loved ones.

Badaru stressed that such actions are not only illegal but also counterproductive, as they provide a financial incentive for criminals to continue their activities.

He urged the public to cooperate with the government’s efforts to combat the problem and not to engage in any activities that could potentially fuel the crisis.

In conclusion, the government’s call to stop illegal payment of ransom to kidnappers is a step in the right direction towards ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.

It is crucial for the public to heed this call and work together with the authorities to put an end to this menace.
