Nigeria's government has declared May 27 and 28, 2026 as public holidays. The dates mark Eid ul Adha celebrations across the country.

Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo announced the decision on Monday in Abuja. His permanent secretary, Magdalene Ajani, signed the official statement.

According to the announcement, the move honours the religious beliefs of millions of Nigerian Muslims. It also recognises their place in the global Islamic community during this sacred observance.

Tunji-Ojo extended warm greetings to Muslim faithful nationwide and in the diaspora. He called Eid ul Adha a spiritually significant festival rooted in sacrifice and obedience to God.

The minister stressed compassion and brotherhood as key values of the celebration. He urged all Nigerians to pray and reflect during the period.

"Nigerians should seek God's guidance as the nation pursues peace and security," he noted. Prosperity for every citizen remains the government's commitment, he added.

In his words, the declaration reflects the spirit of unity binding the nation together. "We wish all Muslims a peaceful and blessed celebration," the statement concluded.
